agewell Initiatives (AWI), llc provides a range of wellness related consulting, advisory and program services for older adult communities and organizations. Our Intrinsic Wellness philosophy makes the AWI approach unique and enriching.
Intrinsic Wellness Our unique approach to wellness is based on the principles and practice of Intrinsic Coaching. Based on Axiology – the science of values – it is guided by and developed around what is important to the participant, i.e. what they value. In addition Intrinsic Wellness has an asset-based approach – focused on the achievement of wellness goals rather than the overcoming of obstacles to those goals. This positive ‘coaching infused’ approach to wellness ensures that clients (whether individuals or organizations) have ‘ownership’ of, and so are more engaged in the wellness process. This is in contrast to typical third party commercial wellness ‘programs’ which in the main consist of pre-determined templates for organizing and implementing classes of various kinds, with little regard to the needs of the clients, or what is important to them. A large body of research, including our own, has shown that such classes are typically not well attended and so have little impact on long term behavior change. Meaningful, long-term change in health related behaviors can only come from goals that are determined by and important to the individual themselves. The AWI approach works in concert with clients to discover, and commit to achieving their own intrinsically derived goals and their own, unique path to Intrinsic Wellness.
In addition to this unique approach all our Wellness Initiatives are based on current scientific evidence – an approach that in health care, health promotion and related fields, is knows as “Evidence-Based”. As a consequence of this, AWI programs represent the highest standards of “Best Practices”, and are designed so that t heir success can be measured both quantitatively and qualitatively. In addition we are actively involved in conducting our own Wellness research, contributing to a growing body of knowledge that continues to show the remarkable benefits that older adults can gain from scientifically designed approaches to strength and wellness. We have published many wellness related research studies involving us in collaboration with other eminent wellness researchers around the world.
