Dr. Wayne T. Phillips

Dr. Phillips is Founder and CEO of agewell Initiatives llc, a company with extensive international experience and expertise in consulting, writing, and speaking on wellness, wellness program design and health related fitness for senior retirement organizations and business communities. With more than 30 years in the field of aging, Dr. Phillips originated the concept of Intrinsic Wellness™ a unique and highly effective approach to health related behavior change centered on Axiology, the science of values. He has consulted with retirement housing and numerous other aging and health related organizations, on the content, design, and thinking behind the creation of “wellness cultures” that go beyond traditional wellness “programs” to produce a positive health related return on investment and create meaningful long-term lifestyle improvements for older adults. Dr. Phillips is a former post-doctoral fellow and research scientist at Stanford University School of Medicine, Center for Research in Disease Prevention, and professor of Exercise and Wellness at Arizona State University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, and a scientific advisory board member for the International Council on Active Aging. Dr. Phillips is an internationally recognized author and presenter, much in demand as an inspirational, humorous and provocative speaker who elicits ‘new thinking’ from audiences about wellness and active lifestyle issues. He has published extensively in scientific journals and commercial periodicals on a wide variety of health and wellness issues relating to older adults. His forthcoming book entitled Exercise from the Inside Out: the Key to an active healthy lifestyle, combines his original thinking on Intrinsic Wellness™ with innovative concepts for ‘reframing’ traditional perceptions of exercise.
